Újezd 19, Praha 1 - Malá Strana

30. 11. 2013–19. 1. 2014 MARTIN SIDORJÁK – COLORS OF SPORT

When I was a young boy I wanted to be a sportsman. In due course I realised that I will never fulfil that dream and that I will become something else. I would not be a Lendl, nor a Hrdina or even a Panenka. But I was still fascinated by the sporting environment and I wished to be part of it. Photography made this possible and the adrenalin rush continued. Just as a sportsman, a photographer has to live through his work. Just as golf or tennis, it is a great hobby and a job for the rest of one’s life in some cases. Photography requires many hours of preparation and planning of what to do and how to do it, so the finish would be perfect and the result would be as one imagines it. You can’t be put off by the wind, the freezing cold or the heat, even though you sometimes feel desperate. You have to fight with yourself to overcome the challenges. You are among people and yet you are alone, just you, your camera and the sport performance you are photographing. A photographer is an eternal student, who is always learning to handle new situations. Circumstances involving different lighting , varying emotions and sometimes something totally new. He has to improvise each step he takes. And when he “gets it”, he is ecstatic but the next day he wakes up and knows that it could have been even better. And he again ponders on the light, the ideas, the quality and the role of luck....! I am still enjoying it.
