František Chrástek was born on 29th June in Uherský Brod. Between 1973 and 1974 he worked as assistant cameraman in Short Film in Prague. Between 1976 and 1981 he studied at the Film and Television Faculty of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) and at the School of Art Photography under professor Jan Smok, Jaroslav Rajzík and Pavel Štecha. After graduating from FAMU, František Chrástek dedicated himself to teaching - between 1982 and 1985 he was a professor of photography at the Academy of Arts and Design in Brno. In 1985 he became a freelance photographer specialising in creative and advertising photography. He has had over thirty one-man exhibitions at home and abroad. He is the owner of the communication agency Q Studio, which he founded in 1991. He lives and works in Uherský Brod.

“František Chrástek is always discovering new motifs and is a perceptive explorer of distant regions without ever losing sight of the previous and subsequent connection with the whole; from the strict austerity in the transformation of the staged still life to an image of almost baroque refinement with strangely interpenetrating forms.”
Aleš Kuneš
